𝐓𝐀𝐂𝐋𝐎𝐁𝐀𝐍 𝐂𝐈𝐓𝐘 —In support of the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) commitment under the leadership of Secretary Francis N. Tolentino to expand access to employment opportunities and help Filipinos secure decent and productive work, 42 jobseekers were hired on the spot during the “Tara Trabaho, G?” Mega Job Fair held on October 10, 2026, at the Tacloban City Convention Center.

Organized through the convergence of DOLE Regional Office VIII (DOLE-RO8) and the Office of Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, the mega job fair brought together employers, government agencies, and jobseekers to facilitate access to local and overseas employment opportunities and translate job vacancies into actual hiring outcomes.

The job fair featured 2,650 job vacancies from 34 employers, comprising 1,239 local vacancies offered by 31 employers and 1,411 overseas vacancies from three employers. The activity provided jobseekers with opportunities to explore employment prospects both in the Philippines and abroad.

Of the 42 applicants hired on the spot, the positions filled included English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher, cashier, clerk, bagger, customer assistant, sales associate, and seasonal crew.

Among those hired on the spot was Mariel Dante, a fresh graduate from Barugo, Leyte, who became the first applicant to secure employment during the job fair.

Dante shared her excitement and gratitude, saying that after two months of searching for a job following graduation, she finally found an employment opportunity through the Mega Job Fair in Tacloban City.

“I am so happy and excited since fresh grad po ako. Two months akong naghanap ng trabaho, at dito sa Mega Job Fair sa Tacloban ako na-hire on the spot. I am very happy and thankful. Maraming salamat po sa DOLE Region VIII at sa Office ni Senator Gatchalian sa pag-organize ng Tara Trabaho, G? dito sa Tacloban. Thank you po,” Dante said.

The activity also promoted inclusive access to employment services, with 65 registered beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) among the job fair participants.

In her message, DOLE Region VIII Regional Director Imelda E. Romanillos underscored the importance of bringing employment opportunities closer to jobseekers, emphasizing that every job opening represents a chance to build a better future.

“Sa likod ng bawat bakanteng posisyon ay isang oportunidad, at sa likod ng bawat aplikante ay isang taong may pangarap, pamilyang itinataguyod, at kinabukasang binubuo,” Romanillos said.

Also present to grace the one-day event was OIC-Assistant Regional Director Engr. Martin T. Jequinto, DOLE-North Leyte Field Office Caretaker, Shirley Ann B. Nebrija, Director Jojo Rosales, from the Political Affairs & Constituent Services Division of the Office of Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, and Mr. Reyan L. Arinto, Regional Head of the Philippine Information Agency VIII.

Through its partnership with the Office of Senate President Gatchalian, DOLE-RO8 strengthened its efforts to connect jobseekers directly with employers and expand access to both local and overseas employment opportunities.

In a video message, Senate President Gatchalian underscored the value of inter-agency convergence and collaboration in making employment services more accessible to the public
