A Mother’s Journey with SPES

I’m Sara Rose Dacula, a 33-year-old mother from New Minarog, Motiong, Samar.

My life has always been shaped by faith, hope, and resilience. As a young girl, I dreamed of becoming an engineer. I carried that determination with me even as I balanced the responsibilities of being a young mother to two children while attending school. However, life had different plans. Financial hardships eventually became overwhelming, forcing me to let go of my dream so I could focus on supporting my family.

Despite everything, the passion to finish my studies never left my heart. I promised myself that one day, I would return to school. That opportunity came when I learned about the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) through our Mayor and Ma’am Silay, our PESO Manager. They not only introduced me to the program but also encouraged me to apply. Knowing how rare opportunities like this are, I took the leap without hesitation.

Through SPES, I was assigned under the KALAHI Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). My work involved engaging with community members, especially beneficiaries of the 4Ps Program. Every day, I met individuals who continued to fight for a better life despite immense struggles. Their strength reflected my own journey and reminded me of how far determination can take a person.

SPES taught me the importance of perseverance, compassion, and responsibility. The experience strengthened my self-esteem, enhanced my flexibility, and deepened my understanding of public service—not just as work, but as a calling.

Motivated by everything I learned, I made the decision to return to school. Balancing motherhood, employment, and education was extremely challenging, but faith and perseverance helped me overcome each obstacle. Eventually, I graduated and secured stable employment—an achievement I once believed was impossible.

Today, I proudly serve as Administrative Aide VI at LGU Motiong. I hold this position with gratitude, reflecting on the long and difficult journey that brought me here. My story is proof that while life may test us, courage and the right opportunities can help us rise above any hardship.

I stand as living proof that it is never too late to chase your dreams. With faith, perseverance, and the courage to move forward, even the hardest beginnings can lead to the most meaningful endings.
