Before becoming a chef, I was just a hopeful jobseeker looking for a chance to prove myself. I wanted a stable job that would allow me to grow and make a difference. My journey took a positive turn when I attended a Job Fair organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) – Samar Field Office. During the event, I noticed that Mare e’ Monte was hiring. Without hesitation, I submitted my application, hoping that this would be the opportunity I had been waiting for.

When I started working, I was not yet a skilled chef. In fact, I had a lot to learn. But through hard work, perseverance, and an eagerness to improve, I slowly developed my culinary skills. Along the way, I met incredible mentors and colleagues who guided me, supported me, and taught me the importance of teamwork, discipline, and dedication.

Now, two years later, I am proud to say that I have become one of Mare e’ Monte’s trusted chefs. Looking back, I am deeply grateful to DOLE for organizing the Job Fair that opened the door to my career.

My journey is proof that sometimes, all it takes is one opportunity—and the courage to take it—to turn a simple dream into a lifelong achievement.
